The Opportunity

 

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing sales training and development programs.  In doing so, you work with management in determining training needs, develop and provide training programs, and evaluate effectiveness of programs.  You’ll maintain contact with various external resources and organizations for training related matters.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for development of instructional materials, manuals, programs, and sales tools in order to increase and enhance skills of sales force
  • Coordinate and conduct training sessions for individuals, groups, distributors, and division personnel, and coordinate field training activities of new Territory Sales Managers
  • Evaluate effectiveness of programs via follow-up and analysis of sales results to assess effectiveness of training presentations
  • Responsible for researching, developing, and implementing sales tools to facilitate sales, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Evaluate and recommend use of external sales tools and/or programs as appropriate
  • Work with sales management in evaluating department specific training needs and recommend appropriate training programs, tools, and, if necessary, external resources
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, and plans, and administer approved department budget necessary in order to meet agreed-upon goals and objectives
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with internal customers, external professionals, agencies, and organizations in order to obtain and exchange information regarding training needs, and programs
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related conferences, and seminars
  • Maintain inventory of sales tools, orders from suppliers, and distributes to new sales members
  • Evaluate department specific training needs and recommend appropriate training programs, tools, and, if necessary, external resources

  • Develop policies, procedures, and plans within  approved department budget

  • Internal Contacts:  Sales, Marketing, and Management 
  • External Contacts:  Distributor sales force(s), key accounts, and vendors 
  • The ability to provide candid feedback in a motivational way, able to leverage your own sales background during training
  • Communication skills necessary to provide advice to sales management regarding training, work with sales personnel to identify training needs, and conduct individual and group training sessions

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Knowledge of sales programs and general business operations at a level normally acquired with a minimum of 5 years selling experience in any field; 2 years of consultative medical / medical device sales experience is preferred
  • A Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field, preferably a Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of the Medical Device Industry sales environment, including hospital sales experience in prevention, treatment and/or surgical solutions preferred
  • A minimum of 1 year managing and coaching sales professionals in any industry for improved performance
  • Basic computer knowledge in all supplied business software for reporting, forms, orders, records, and business plans
  • Presentation skills, and having the ability to deliver training; comfortable managing the classroom, using an engaging and interactive approach
  • Pharmaceutical/Medical Device/Healthcare sales management experience preferred by not required
